About me! "The Foodie Pharmer"
Hi everyone, my name is Isabelle but you will get to know me here as The Foodie Pharmer. I am very passionate about health and wellness, and believe that food is medicine. I am a Pharmacy student working on getting my PharmD, and will be graduating in May 2021. My beliefs are science and research based, so despite the fact that I study medicine, I do believe that a lot of adverse health outcomes can be prevented through a healthy and balanced diet. Medication is a last resort, which in many ways has come so far and has saved many lives, through vaccinations, antibiotics, etc. In other regards, I hope to encourage you to choose healthier options, be mindful of what you are eating and the ingredients in them, and to learn the science behind the complex yet extraordinary body that you occupy.
Eating healthy, exercising, meditating and engaging in yoga are all forms of self respect. If you are free of disease and lead a healthy life, then you should appreciate that in its simplicity. As for someone who has been working in medicine for the past 3 years, and any healthcare worker out there - we can all agree that we know what it is like to be suffering from sickness and disease. I've had my favorite patients with whom I built good relationships with, die in the blink of an eye. I've seen my patients take on cancer, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's and numerous other diseases. There have been days when my favorite patients would come in and not remember me, because their brains were slowly deteriorating.
The information available to us is extraordinary, and it is a privilege to our generation, a privilege that past generations were not fortunate in having - so they fell short to the lack of knowledge, and are now sadly suffering.
I've never necessarily eaten junk food - my culture brought me up to eat mostly whole, fresh foods. However, the past few years I started to take more notice to certain things, and slowly built up a list of things that I had been consuming and little was I aware they were setting my health up for failure. Take a moment right now, and go to your fridge. Find a ketchup bottle, and look for HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP. Sadly most of you will see this. And sadly, you probably have been consuming it for a long time without even noticing. It is one of the most dangers ingredients, and its found in more foods then one would think expect. On top of the high fructose corn syrup, there are so many other adverse ingredients found in food products - I could honestly write a whole book's worth of them.
My point here is, our food system is corrupt. The FDA will approve anything as long as clinical trials show that your product of interest does not murder a human on the spot. What does that mean? That means that, although it doesn't necessarily cause immediate harm, it will very likely cause harm in the future. Most things that are approved for safe and healthy use, will really just build up slowly, like boiling water on a stove- in order to one day cause some serious damage; genetic defects, mitochondrial defects, brain defects, muscular defects, the list goes on.
I'm not here to scare you, or make you feel paranoid about living your life. The whole point here is, that behind the scenes the federal health industry is all pretty wack, and on the surface its all hidden. Healthy- is respecting your body as I mentioned earlier. There are people suffering, and we OWE it to them to love and take care of our bodies and utilize the resources and knowledge available to all of us. I eat healthy, I exercise, practice self love, take care of my mental health, and I do it for THEM - for the people who didn't have it as good as us.
I hope this site inspires you to go out and be BETTER, in all aspects of your life. I hope you grow everyday, just a little, towards a better YOU.
